Development of ammonium nitrate free nutrient media for aluminium toxicity tolerance screening of rice genotypes from North-Eastern India

North-Eastern India is blessed with a vast diversity of rice genotypes varying yielding abilities. However, the predominant strong soil acidity induced nutrient stresses from toxicity aluminum (Al3+) ions often causes sub-optimal productivity. The lack suitable media for screening (Al) tolerance one limiting factors in Al tolerant varieties' development. Modified Magnavaca's solution has been most recommended this purpose where ammonium nitrate primary nitrogen source. strict regulations related to handling and storage limit preparation Magnavaca’s laboratory use. Here, modified nitrate-free formulation based upon proposed. was found have 160.9 µM active Al3+ concentration when 550 chloride hexahydrate (AlCl3.6H2O) added at pH 4.1 solution. Through plant growth experiment using ten diverse significant difference response various differential levels on root performance indicators observed. Based response, we could able categorize into sensitive relative terms. Thus, present provided an important under conditions. Moreover, selected can further pave way studying molecular mechanism their use breeding program.
